ANN BEUSCH SCHOLARSHIP
The Maryland Foreign Language Association has
established this scholarship to offer financial support to a high school senior
who wishes to pursue a career in foreign language education. Applicants must
submit the items requested in the attached guidelines. The awardee will receive
a scholarship of $500 (distributed in two installments), and will be notified
by May 15, 2008. Please return the completed application packet by APRIL 30, 2008.
The Ann Beusch Scholarship for Foreign Language Teacher Education

GUIDELINES:
I. The purpose of this activity is to
provide a scholarship to a high school senior who is interested in pursuing a
career in foreign language education.
II. A scholarship may be distributed annually
to a qualified high school senior. The recipient must have completed 3 or more
years of foreign language study of the same language at the high school level,
or be currently enrolled in level 3 or higher of one foreign language.
III. Applicants
must be recommended by a teacher, who is a current member of MFLA.
IV. Applicants for the scholarship must submit
the following:
A. Application form
B. A high school transcript
C. Two
recommendations – with at least one
being from a foreign language teacher who is a current member of MFLA.
Recommendations should include comments on the student’s abilities and
interests, as well as discuss the student’s potential as a teacher candidate.
D. An essay by the applicant of at least 250
words describing the student’s career goals and interest in foreign language
education.
Applications must include all information stated in
Section IV in order to be evaluated by the Awards Committee.
