
ESCOLA TEACHER INCENTIVE GRANT
The
Maryland Foreign Language Association has established this grant program to
offer financial support to a MFLA member
who wishes to complete a project related to classroom instruction. Applications
will be evaluated on the attached criteria and the awardee will receive a
personal grant of $500 (at the start of the project) and up to an addition
$500.00 for materials (after completion of project against submission of
receipts). Please return the completed application by April 30, 2008 to:

GUIDELINES:
I. The purpose
of this activity is for MFLA to provide financial support to teachers who have
particular classroom-related materials or activities which they wish to develop
or refine. Projects such as the following are acceptable: video tapes,
slide/tape presentations, written instructional units, handbooks for students,
internet/web activities, computer programs, and similar instructional
resources.
II. An award may be distributed annually to a classroom teacher
of foreign language. The recipient must
be a current member of MFLA and may teach at any instructional level.
III. Members of the Awards Committee of the MFLA Board will review
applications, select nominees, and recommend the recipient to the Board, using
specified criteria approved by the Board.
IV. Criteria to be used in evaluating proposals are:
A. Clear relationship
to classroom instruction and benefits to students/other teachers (20 points)
B. Novel or
innovative approach to topic (20 points)
C. Clear statement of
project objectives, procedures and assessment (20 points)
D. Appropriateness
for use with students of all abilities (20 points)
E. Communicative or
proficiency orientation of project (20 points)
V. Proposal must include all information required on the
application form in order to be evaluated by the Awards Committee who will
determine the merits of each project.
VI. The Escola Teacher Incentive Grant will be in the amount of
$500, plus an additional amount up to $500.00 to cover materials, supplies,
other expenses. Receipts must be
submitted to the Awards Committee Chair. Recipients will not be eligible to
receive the award more than once.
VII. The MFLA Board will receive the report of the Awards Committee
once per year (Spring) and authorize payment of $500.00 at that time. The
remaining amount will be paid upon completion of the project submission of the
results by September 1 to the Committee.
VIII. The recipient must agree to share the results of the
project/activity with other foreign language teachers via:
A. A presentation at
the MFLA Fall Conference and/or
B. An article in the
MFLA newsletter
