Ann Beusch Scholarship
What is it?
MFLA has established this scholarship to offer financial support to a high school senior or current college student who intends to pursue a career in world language education. Applicants must submit the items requested in the attached guidelines.

Who may apply?
An individual who falls into one of the following categories:
A. A student enrolled at a college or university in 2025-26 who meets the following criteria may be eligible to receive a $750 scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year:
B. A high school senior in 2024-25 who meets the following criteria may be eligible for a $750 scholarship to be used at the college or university of his/her choice in 2025-26:
What is the application procedure?
Applicants for the scholarship must complete the application form and upload the following documents in that form:
Applications must include all information stated in the above section in order to be evaluated by the Awards Committee.
What funding is included?
The awardee will receive a scholarship of $750 distributed in two installments of $375 each. The first will be awarded upon selection and is to be applied to semester one, and the second installment will follow completion of semester one at an accredited college or university and upon the committee's receipt of proof of enrollment in semester two.
What requirements are there if selected to receive the Anne Beusch Scholarship?
The recipient must submit proof of acceptance to an accredited college or university and enrollment in language classes at said institution (i.e., proof of registration in courses, transcripts). The recipient may also be asked to share oral and/or written information about scholarship-related experiences with others via a MFLA webinar, blog post, presentation for peers, or interview. MFLA will follow up with local media for press releases and coverage, with written approval of the recipient and/or parent or guardian.

- Is majoring or minoring in a world language and is also taking education courses, or
- Is working towards a teaching certification in Maryland with a world language endorsement, and
- Is recommended by an educator who is a current member of MFLA.
B. A high school senior in 2024-25 who meets the following criteria may be eligible for a $750 scholarship to be used at the college or university of his/her choice in 2025-26:
- Has the intent to take education courses with the additional intent to work towards teaching certification in Maryland with a world language endorsement, and
- Is recommended by an educator who is a current member of MFLA.
What is the application procedure?
Applicants for the scholarship must complete the application form and upload the following documents in that form:
- A high school transcript (for HS seniors) or a college transcript (for college students);
- Two recommendations - with at least one being from an educator who is a current member of MFLA (if unsure of membership status, please contact [email protected]);
Recommendations should include comments on the student's academic abilities and interests, as well as the student's engagement and leadership. Finally, the recommendation should address the student's potential as a teacher candidate. - An essay by the applicant of at least 250 words describing the student's current involvement with world languages, as well as career goals and interest in World Language Education;
- A signed Media Consent Form (access here).
