MFLA Visual Arts Contest
Application information
The application, artwork, and required forms must be submitted no later than April 30, 2025 at 11:59PM.
The purpose of the contest is to engage world language teachers and their students in a visual interpretation of the theme WHY IS LEARNING ANOTHER LANGUAGE IMPORTANT?
IMPORTANT: Late entries will not be accepted. Entries that do not meet specified criteria or that have spelling errors (in any language) will be disqualified. Students whose teachers are not members of MFLA by April 30, 2025 by 11:59 PM will be disqualified.

- This contest is open to students of current MFLA Members at the elementary, middle, high school or post-secondary level.
- Sponsoring teachers must be current MFLA members as of the date of submission. If you are unsure of your membership status, please contact us at [email protected]
- A winner will be selected at each level. Each first place winner will receive a cash award of $50.
- In addition, there will be an overall winner whose artwork will become the cover of the MFLA Fall Conference program. This artist will receive an additional award of $50.
- Winners will be contacted through their teacher and be invited to a special event at the MFLA Fall Conference.
- Teachers should notify MFLA if the winning student changes schools.
- The sponsoring teacher of the overall winner will receive a free one-year MFLA membership renewal.
- The visual interpretation of WHY IS LEARNING ANOTHER LANGUAGE IMPORTANT? may be hand-drawn (use only one 8½ x 11 piece of plain white paper, portrait orientation), or artwork may be created digitally.
- All submissions must be original student work. Copyrighted or plagiarized images will not be accepted and the student will be disqualified.
- Any included text must be accurate and error-free. Please check the spelling.
- Schools are limited to five entries per level (elementary, middle, high, or post-secondary). Each entry must include the following information to be submitted via Google Forms (see link below).
- Student’s name, grade, language and level, and student’s email address
- School name, county or school district, school address, school phone number
- Teacher’s first and last names & email address
- All entries will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Theme relevance (20 points)
- Visual impact (20 points)
- Neatness and spelling accuracy (20 points)
- Originality (20 points)
- Adherence to guidelines (20 points)

- The documents below must be downloaded, then signed, scanned, and uploaded to the Google forms application by the teacher.
- Teacher membership verification form: Teacher membership verification The student name and the teacher name must appear in the file name. (For example: Student Mary Jones_Teacher John Smith)
- The second form is a media consent and must be signed by a parent or a guardian if the student is under the age of 18. Click below to download. - The teacher will scan the student artwork and upload it to the Google forms application. The student name and the teacher name must appear in the file name. (For example: Student Mary Jones_Teacher John Smith)
